I’m designing the yearly calendar for our brand at work and learning all sorts of crazy things about holidays. I sorta remember having this feeling when I did it last year, but I guess I didn’t retain any of it. Maybe I will now because I’m writing it down.

Anyways, here are a few I thought were cool/sad/interesting:

• Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – It took 15 years (1968-1983) for the holiday to be signed into law, 3 more years for it to be first observed, and another 20 years (!) for all 50 states to finally get onboard with this FEDERAL holiday!
• Veterans Day – This is the official spelling per the United States government. It’s not Veteran’s Day or Veterans’ Day like you see everywhere.
• Washington’s Birthday – Most of us know it as Presidents Day or Presidents’ Day thanks to a push by advertisers in the late 1980’s.
• 2008 was a leap year—one extra day in February makes 366 days. Apparently Superman was born on February 29th, making him a leaper.
